New art forms emerge everyday. Take the latest film festival in Paris, the Pocket Film Festival, which combines short-filmmaking with mobile mania – that’s right, it’s a film festival to showcase all that the mobile phone offers. The fourth annual Pocket Film Festival is now calling for submissions from filmmakers, artists, students and amateurs.

So what’s it all about? Well, basically there are two sections of the competition. The first, entitled “Cinema Screen” is for films shot with mobile medium such as video mobile phones, digital cameras and communications terminals, but with the intention of displaying the final product on movie theatre or cinema screens. The second category is catered for the “Mobile Screen”, that is, created with the aforementioned devices with an anticipated audience of users of video phones, I-Pods, game consoles, etc. Talk about mobility!

What a deal on mobile phones and mobile technologies! Even though the festival is in its fourth year, I’m surprised someone didn’t think of it earlier! The festival screens annually at the visually stunning Centre Georges Pompidou (also known as the Pompidou Centre) which is the main focal point for the modern and contemporary arts in Paris.

The content for festival entries isn’t confined to any particular genre, and all sorts of innovative entries are accepted. Animation, experimental, fiction, documentary, reportage and series… the list of possibilities goes on and it’s only restricted by imagination and any limitations that your mobile phone deals. Similarly, there are no time limits or required lengths of the films.
